md35 Builder
M Boats in Buenos Aires, Argentina was selected to build the Summit md35 due to the location of the production yard, to ensure the high level of quality essential to the class’s success, and to have a team that has some of the most experienced project managers and boat builders available.
While M Boats is a new company, the experience of the individuals within the team creates an ideal environment for the launch of a new class of one design daysailers. Their mission in forming M Boats was to create a facility to satisfy the increasing demand for custom, semi-custom and high quality production boats between 30’ and 90’ in an efficient and competitive manner.
In the past few years the demand for boats built to a very high standard has increased and those existing companies supplying this type of boat have frequently been unable to meet demand. In addition, labor rates and other overhead costs have risen considerably in the USA, Europe, New Zealand and Australia in recent years and as a result the market is now looking at countries such as China, Turkey, Tunisia, Croatia and others that have better labor rates but which lack management and expertise.
Argentina, with its long history of high quality boat building, offers low labor rates combined with an excellent knowledge base. The team that came together to form M Boats took part in the success of King Marine (Compania de Barcos), which was formed four years ago and has since built more than fifteen hi-tech boats including: One 73’Cruiser/Racer, two IMS 600s, two 62’ Cruiser/Racers, Two super yacht tenders, two IMS 500s, one TP 52, five GP 42s, one IRC 66’, and one Dixon 73’.
Javier Mendez, Managing Director, Julian Mendez, and Lucas Dittrich lead the team at M Boats. Their combined backgrounds in naval and mechanical engineering, project management, after sales service, technical services, and business administration in conjunction with their established relationships with international designers and project managers over the years, were a vital key in encouraging the group to found M Boats.
Summit Yachts chose M Boats to build the Summit md35 due to the company’s aim to deliver quality products and service at an affordable price, but also to allow for a future of sustainable growth at a contained rate to incorporate new challenges as the company matures.
